My Day as Mascot by Aidan Smith

My name is Aidan smith and I want to tell you about one of the best days of my life.It was my 13th birthday and I had been chosen to be the match day mascot for Motherwell FC against Ross County .

On the day of my birthday I woke up feeling very excited for the day ahead but also very nervous because I had never done anything like this before . When we were in the car on the way to Fir park there was lots of things going through my mind “like where we going to win? Who will I meet?” What will the players be like? What will the noise be like running out the tunnel?”

Once we got to the stadium we went to the lounge in the Cooper stand that overlooked the park .It was strange to see the stadium virtually empty knowing that in an hour the crowd would be in. In the lounge I got to meet the other mascot. After that we made our way down to the changing rooms and got all the players autographs which was absolutely amazing .I brought along one of my old MFC shirts and asked the players to sign that.

The players were all nice and friendly. This was one of my favourite parts of the day , meeting face to face some of my heroes , not in the street but just before they were going out to play for the team.

My Family at that point were shown to their seats in the stand.Once I was with the players in the tunnel I was so excited, it felt brilliant when I walked out with the team and captain Keith Lasley. As we were standing in the tunnel waiting to go out , my heart was pounding.  I was so excited and this made me wonder how the players must feel getting to go out and play in front of all the fans , every game. What an honour and a privilege . Once we made our way out of the tunnel and on to the pitch it felt amazing the atmosphere was exhilarating. My team and our fans , all together as one , which is part of the reason I love  and support Motherwell  . They stand for our community and are local to me and my friends.

Now we were on the pitch we shook hands with the players before heading to our seats in the  Phil O’Donnell stand , then watched the game where we unfortunately lost 1-0.

Despite the result I will treasure this day forever and hope to add many more happy memories throughout my life as Motherwell supporter. Since  I have been the mascot Motherwell have managed to stay up after some scares and I will be looking forward to watching them play in the top division next season with my season ticket . My Mum , Dad and little sister all came along and also enjoyed this day as a family.

We would like to thank Aidan for writing this for us and we are delighted to hear he had such a memorable experience.
